When starting your weight loss journey it can be difficult to who exactly you should listen too.
One issue you will face is people who have not been in your position telling you what you should be doing. They will recommend plans that are not ideal for beginners.
In this post I will share 3 reasons why you should mainly take your advice from people who have actually walked the path of the goal you are trying to achieve.
Reason 1: They can help you see that focussing on the long term goal will get you results
People who have not been in your position will often recommend plans that are not ideal to a beginner. They will recommend hard calorie deficits with radical changes.
This is often because they want you to see fast “results” with the aim of keeping you as a customer. But this is a long process and people who have lost a lot of weight and kept it off know this.
They will recommend habit changes and small changes in the beginning. Because small incremental changes and positive habit forming is the way to long term effective weight loss.
Reason 2: They can help you filter out all the noise
When I first started there was so much information from a lot of different sources.
I did not know who to believe and often I would not start anything because I was overanalysing everything. Trying to find the best path will cause you to make no progress.
Heres the secret. There is no secret diet or plan that will be perfect. You make a choice and course correct along the way.
And someone who has been obese will be able to help you filter through the noise. They can help you see what you should be focussing on.
Reason 3: They can help keep you accountable
Someone who was in your position knew that by keeping course and not giving up they were able to achieve their goals.
Having someone who has walked the path can help you stay on track by being held accountable to them. They can help you see how far you have come and to keep putting the effort to see it through to the end.
Often because we see ourselves in the mirror everyday we may not notice progress. But someone we are accountable to can help us see exactly how far we have come.
So there it is. 3 reasons why you should listen to people who have walked the path of the goals you are trying to achieve.
What do you think? How many times have you bought something or started a plan from someone who hasn’t walked the path and realised you couldn’t stick to it.
