Hi, my name is Ryan, I’m 26 from the UK. In 2018 after meeting a friend and seeing myself in a picture I was unhappy with how I looked, I knew I was overweight but after seeing myself in some pictures I knew I let myself go and quite bad. Later that week I weighed myself and was shocked to find I weighed 118kg which for my height put me in the obese category with a BMI of 37.2. Up to that point I didn’t really take much notice of my health and my weight, I didn’t have a tall mirror to look at myself each day and I rarely weighed myself if ever. This blog documents my journey from obese to healthy over the course of 3 years.
My journey so far
So in 2018 after seeing how big I was in pictures I wanted to make a change, I didn’t really know where to start, I tried a few home workouts but this didn’t really achieve much as I had not sorted my diet out and you cannot outwork a bad diet. Over the next few months I tried adjusting my diet and I didn’t really see results as fast as I liked which made me end up going from one fad diet to the next, trying each one for 2-4 weeks then giving up because I wasn’t seeing results. Looking back I now realise this mindset of not seeing big results in 2-4 weeks and switching to other diets was what held me back from making real long term weight loss. So far on my journey I had not really made any real progress, my typical cycle was fad diet, binge eating then back to fad diet.
It wasn’t until in March 2020 when I was on an economy long haul flight home to the UK that I was fed up, I was annoyed that I just barely fit into the economy seats which were so uncomfortable at my weight. I was unhappy about a lot of things: the clothes not fitting, the being too big for seats on public transport, the social anxiety, the people looking down on me for being the weight I was. Once I was home from that flight I immediately got to work on my diet, I knew from my research that the diet would provide 80% of my results. From March 2020 to May 2021 I went down from 118kg to 78kg a total of 40kg weight loss in 15 months. Over the past 3 years I have learned so much about what works and what doesn’t work which brings me onto my next point.
Why I want to help others
When I first started I didn’t know where to turn to for advice, I saw all these resources showing me the latest fad/trend/diet hack but I didn’t know if these were any good, only trial and error allowed me to see what to and what not to focus on. My goal with this blog is to share the knowledge I have gained over the years so that it can help you achieve your weight loss goals without having to waste your time on diet fads and workout hacks that just do not work.
